FREE SPEED MAGAZINE SPREAD
This project took me a while to get right. This was originally a project I made for class, but I wasn’t very happy with it. About a year and a half after I completed the original, I decided to go back and revamp the project. Originally, I struggled with how I wanted to incorporate images into the layout, so that was a big focus this time round.
This project showcases my growth as a designer, and how I have honed my hard skill set in the year and a half between the first and final versions of this project. I incorporated small details such as each article having its own layout and identity, but in a way that still feels cohesive with the zine as a whole.
None of the photos are mine, they are all taken by Brittany Billingsley, Nicole Bridge, and Genevieve Carrillo. Credit is also given in the zine spreads.

I was able to print out physical copies of this spread and present it as part of my senior BFA showcase. This was super exciting to see it physically after looking at it on a screen for so long.
Throughout my college career, I rowed for the Western Washington men’s team. It helped me grow as a person and a leader, as well as help me with this project. My goal was to take the fairly dry text and incorporate the feeling of being in a boat. While the photos give good context, where this is really shown is in the type itself. It is bold and sleek, with a pop of bright color and energy.
